These sunglasses are made using a combination of cellulose acetate for the frame and Zeiss CR-39 for the lenses.
Celluslose acetate is derived from plant cellulose, processed with acetic anhydride and the addition of plasticisers to form a polymer that is traditionally used in the production of optical and sunglass frames.
The acetate used is easy to trace through the supply chain as the suppliers are few and well established. Components come mostly from Japan or Germany, with up to seven different suppliers contributing parts for each pair.
CR-39 is a thermoset plastic that has the highest abrasion/scratch resistance of any uncoated optical plastic.
The lenses are made from CR-39 (allyl diglycol carbonate), a lightweight material with high optical quality. Made by Zeiss, a leading manufacturer of optical products.
UV 100% protection
Sunglare rating: Category 3 (General purpose sunglasses. High protection against sunglare)
Complies with the requirements of: AS/NZS 1067.2:2016
Maker
Our glasses are made collaboratively with an independent operator, Hint, who is a small, Hong Kong designer trading under the name DH Solutions. Making eyewear is reliant on many different and highly specialised components and suppliers, and Hint facilitates these processes for us. We have visited the suppliers at each stage of the process, despite its length and complexities.

The glasses are assembled in a new factory in China that meets REACH standards. The owner has set up his factory according to ISO standards, and they are working to gain full accreditation.
